Our Story

Welcome to the Peterstown Heritage Society, a proud independent non-profit established in 1973!
We are deeply committed to preserving and sharing the vibrant history of Waterloo, Illinois, particularly its pioneer years. Our centerpiece, the historic Peterstown House, serves as a museum where visitors can embark on engaging tours that highlight the building's remarkable journey through time. Originally a store, the Peterstown House later transformed into a bustling coach stop complete with an inn, tavern, and ballroom, before eventually being converted into multi-family apartments. During your visit, you'll have the opportunity to experience a variety of eras through both permanent and changing exhibits.
Join us as we celebrate the captivating story of our town and honor its heritage!
