Our Story

Welcome to the Peterstown Heritage Society, a proud independent non-profit established in 1973!
We are deeply committed to preserving and sharing the and vibrant history of Waterloo, Illinois, particularly its pioneer years. Our centerpiece, the historic Peterstown House, serves as a museum where visitors can embark on engaging tours that highlight the building's remarkable journey through time. Originally a store, the Peterstown House later transformed into a bustling coach stop complete with an inn, tavern, and ballroom, before eventually being converted into multi-family apartments. During your visit, you'll have the opportunity to experience a variety of eras through both permanent displays and changing exhibits.
Join us as we celebrate the captivating story of our town and honor its heritage!
